Thousand Layer Lasagna
Ingredients
- 1 box of lasagna noodles
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb Italian sausage
- 2 jars marinara sauce
- 1 container ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 egg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil and parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, and cook until fragrant and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add ground beef and Italian sausage to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking up the meat with a spoon. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in marinara sauce and let it simmer for 15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, half of the shredded mozzarella cheese, and half of the grated Parmesan cheese. Mix well.
- In a large baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Place a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce.
- Spread a layer of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by a layer of meat sauce. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of meat sauce.
- Sprinkle the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese on top.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil and parsley if desired. Serve and enjoy!
